Improving Bandwidth

As an author in Knovio, you can use the bandwidth checker to determine if you can record video at the highest quality.

As a viewer, your playback may be slow or the video might buffer while watching. This is also a bandwidth issue.

If your bandwidth is below 820 Kbps, both recording and viewing will not be at the highest quality. Here are some ways that you can improve your bandwidth speed:

  • Use an ethernet cable to physically connect to the router.
  • If you cannot hard wire your internet, move closer to the router to receive less interference.
  • Try switching to a different internet connection that is not as busy or crowded.
  • Make sure there are no downloads or updates running in the background.
    • A good way to check what programs are running is through Actvity Monitor (Mac) or Task Manager (Windows)
  • If you are using a web conferencing platform such as GoToMeeting, your bandwidth will be lower than normal.
    • To increase your bandwidth, connect to the conference via phone, rather than through your computer, and hardwire your internet connection.
  • Disconnect from VPN (Virtual Private Network), as this will consume an inordinate amount of bandwidth, wired or wireless.
  • Check with your IT department that you're streaming through the right port. We recommend Port 1935, as Port 80 will cause latency and choppiness and will come in below the recommended bandwidth.
